  About This Site

At the request of a reader I have added this page ...

Who am I? I am just a person with an interest in the subject, a "student" of history, nothing more. Maintaining this website, which I started back in 1996, is only a hobby. I certainly don't consider myself an expert in anything, as there is always more to discover, read, learn and know.

By trade, I am a software engineer with 20+ years of experience. And, though I am quite thankful for and enjoy my day job, it does tend to get in the way of my numerous hobbies. I am a member of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation. I helped restart the defunct Oregon Chapter and have served as president, vice-president and secretary of that organization. I was also a volunteer staff member of the national Bicentennial Council and created and maintained their website for a number of years.

Again, this is my personal hobby site and is independent from my association with the Oregon Chapter, the Foundation or the Council. I should also point out that the purpose of the disclaimer (see below), is simply to isolate the content of the archive site from the host organization. As maintaining this site is just a hobby, I could not really justify or afford to pay for site hosting services back then (or now), so I begged and pleaded with institutions for donated ISP services. My first host institution was Washington State University at Pullman, then the University of Montana at Missoula and it is now provided through the benevolence of the folks at the Bookstore at the University of Montana in Missoula. So the disclaimer is really just to say, "Hey, if you have comments or a problem with this site, contact me and not the host institution."
